Children are threatended in the world
The problem of the “threatened children” is one of the most fundamental issues in humanity. It could even be a plague persistently and consequently disastrous.
The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) keeps and eye and serves as a watchdog in society for the respect of children rights daily. Indeed children are said to be threatened in the world for the fact that they sometimes come across disastrous situations due to hard work, wars and prostitution.
As far as war is concerned, in the last decade, about 2 million children met violent deaths, while another four million are today disabled, blind or mentally retarded by exploding anti personnel mines. But some how or the other they survive next to other children that the war has deprived of shelter. Thus they become real victims. There is presently an existing phenomenon threatening the lives of children worldwide. This phenomenon is child labour.
Be it in America, Asia, Europe or Africa, children are compelled worldwide to jobs which even adults cannot do. A nine to twelve year old child cannot carry on his back a brick of 3 to 5 Kg or work in dangerous mines. Yet all these atrocities perpetrated against children form a "leprosy” on humanity. It proves that children are threatened not only in poor countries but also every where in the world.
Some children grow up with mental and relational difficulties which they live with all their lives. In recent years, many cases of ill treated children have been denounced every where in the world so that today the situation is in such a way that you may no longer deny or ignore the facts.
Thousands of children die everyday of hunger, disease or war. A good example is the story of Maria a twelve year old orphan who got pregnant after she had been raped. Added to this she had to do menial jobs and sometimes walk 300 km She delivered a premature baby who lived only a for two weeks. At the same time, ill and underfed herself she died a week later.
Therefore we can say that children are the heritage of God and there is a need to protect them against every odd they are confronted with. We must be more careful and considerate to protect them For we cannot talk of the future, when the lives of young children are constantly in danger. More over with regards to parents, the most precious gift that they can give their offspring is the fulfilment of a happy and protected childhood, so that they are fully prepared for the future.
